Getting Used to Early

New life skills an early work schedule has taught me:

Choose clothes the night before and put them where you get dressed. For me, that means hanging them in the bathroom before bed. If you're indecisive, give yourself options, or stop dithering and make a choice already.

In fact, do everything you used to do in the morning before bed, except teeth, hair, and face. Pack your lunch, find your keys. Whatever slows you down in your morning routine, move to the evening. Cutting off most of your hair and wearing a style that rewards bed head helps too. Edgy or fell-asleep-with-wet-hair hair? Nobody knows!

If you wear makeup, consider doing it at work at your first break. No one cares if you have mascara on at 6 in the morning. I promise. Or ever, really.

Don't snooze. Never ever. You're going to want to, because it's 5 a.m. fer god's sake, but resist the urge. It will make you groggy, you might accidentally turn off your alarm, and you only gave yourself 15 minutes and can't afford to loll about in bed. Get. Up.

Turn on lights. Yes, you have to open BOTH eyes. That blue light you're supposed to avoid before bed is your friend in the morning.

Avoid getting sucked into your phone.

Bonus points for learning how to see in the dark. Haven't mastered that one yet. I'm talking to you, knee bashing bicycle sideways across the walkway.

Happy Friday, early birds!
